What to Watch for in Business Card Design

A small surface with a lot to say. A few simple rules that keep it readable.

A business card is held in the hand and read in seconds. Good card design is less about standing out and more about making the needed detail easy to find immediately.

Keep a safe margin

Because of the cutting tolerance, text placed close to the edge is risky. Keeping type a sensible distance in means small trim shifts stop being a problem.

Do not shrink the type

When space runs short the first instinct is to shrink the type — but the right fix is usually to carry less information. A name, a role, a phone number, an e-mail and one address are normally enough.

Choosing a finish

Matt lamination resists fingerprints and reads calmer; gloss makes colours livelier. If people will write on the card by hand, an uncoated or matt finish is more practical.

If you do not have a design, we can prepare your card. Send over your logo and details and we will come back with a few options.
